Object in Focus: Free short-term loans from the Horniman Museum & Gardens

Object in Focus is a project funded by the Arts Council England to proactively loan out objects to museums and non-museum venues. The aim is to increase access to the Horniman Museum's stored collections, promote Smarter Loans and forge links with other museums and cultural organisations.

This free offer includes an object or themed objects in a showcase with all associated costs covered by the project. The display has the power to stand alone and be the sole focus of an exhibition or, through collaboration, can become a part of a wider exhibition.

Objects currently in the project span their three collections; Natural History, Anthropology and Musical instruments. Example objects include a horse’s skull which has been used to reflect the horse in farming, racing and the veterinary world, as well as part of a World War 1 exhibition, illustrating the animal’s role in warfare; and a collection of 62 traditionally decorated Romanian Easter eggs have been used as the centre piece of Easter programming or to focus on the theme of craft and design.

The Object in Focus project team are now looking for interested museums who can accommodate a loan for a period in 2016 onwards.
