Becoming a dementia friendly arts venue: A practical guide [LINK]

A new publication is now available on how arts venues can make their facilities and services more accommodating for people affected by dementia.

‚ÄčThe Dementia Friendly Communities Team alongside members of the Prime Minister's Champion Group on the Arts have created 'Becoming a dementia-friendly arts venue: a how-to guide', based on best practise examples of the work going on across the country already to support people affected by dementia and using arts venues.

Aspects of socialising and remaining independent can be difficult when a person develops dementia and after a diagnosis people can feel isolated and unable to visit the venues and partake in the activities they have come to enjoy.

This guide gives arts venues, of all sizes, the opportunity to pick and choose from practical guidance and to create a dementia-friendly approach tailored to their organisation. It covers three key areas which include community engagement, accessibility and programming as well as providing signposting to key resources and publications and a succinct evidence base that organisations can use to back their proposals to take on this work.
